The author, Virginia A Myers, has had over forty years of involvement teaching and as a print maker with Mauricio Lasansky and the Iowa Print Group at The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History. Professor Myers was fascinated by the commercial application of hot stamped foil and became interested in the possibility of utilizing foil stamping to create fine art. Because the complex, intimidating foil stamping presses employed by industry we not appropriate for use in private studios or the classroom, she invented The Iowa Foil Printer. This hand held applicator and hot plate that allows one artist working alone to control and execute the entire stamping process.
